£44,982 the band D minimum and is the normal starting pay for those new to a role. In exceptional circumstances, when relevant skills and experience can be identified, a higher starting salary may be considered.
We will give full consideration to requests for flexible and part time working, such as reduced hours, compressed hours or job sharing. British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional mechanical and/or electrical engineer to join our Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (AIMP) team. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. You'll be joining our Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (AIMP) Team as it looks to complete the permanent works on our new operations and scientific support building, The Discovery Building and the network of site wide services in this forthcoming season. We concentrate on developing the technical design with our construction and design partners for the Renewables Infrastructure Project bringing to fruition plans for the commissioning of new assets in the 2026-27 Sumer Austral season.
You'll help us to deliver on-site supervision of the completion of the installation, support witnessing of the site acceptance tests, commissioning and training on the mechanical and electrical systems within Discovery Building and renewables infrastructure. You will support assessment of the test data of our MEP systems and prepare information for the operational risk log as part of our governance process with accepting the systems in the new asset. Your role will coordinate and review of the handover documentation including as-built, H&S file and asset data.
Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop expertise in the commissioning of renewable energy systems, and fuel based mechanical and electrical systems, garner a depth of understanding of the building management system (BMS) and how it is used to support facilities management of the new assets and legacy buildings. The role will also expose you to project management processes and the transition of projects from its operational phase into business as usual.

- Support the Rothera Modernisation Senior Project Manager and Commissioning Manager in delivering the new mechanical and electrical systems within the Discovery Building.
- Support the Renewables Infrastructure Project Team in their preparation of the design and commissioning planning.
- Deploy to Rothera Research Station as a commissioning engineer. Supervise and monitor progress by the Contractor with completion of M&E works on systems within Discovery and Renewables Projects.
- Coordinate technical input into critical systems analysis for renewable and mechanical and electrical systems.
- Maintain operational readiness documentation for the completion of commissioning activities.
