Job Description

Department FixOurFood, based in the School for Business and Society, is an ambitious research programme inspiring action across Yorkshire to co-create a regenerative food system. With a focus on schools, hybrid business models and regenerative farming and working alongside a comprehensive team of stakeholders, the programme has identified areas of action with the greatest potential to transform the Yorkshire food system. The programme ends in February 2027. This would be a great 8 month secondment opportunity.

The FixOurFood Commission has been created as a legacy of the FixOurFood research programme, with a vision to provide a cohesive voice for Yorkshire food system transformation supporting healthy people, thriving businesses and a flourishing planet. The Commission will work alongside stakeholders to action change in food policy, remodel supply chains and public food procurement, improve dietary health, particularly in young people, and support innovation in regenerative practices.

This role is an exciting opportunity to manage the day to day operation of the Commission as it becomes firmly established in the region. You will support the Chair and Vice Chair of the Commission together with other commissioners to build a profile for the Commission and ensure commissioners can use their time effectively to support key areas of transformative action.

Role
  • Manage the day to day and financial operation of the FixOurFood Commission.
  • Proactively support the FixOurFood Commission Chair, Vice Chair and commissioners so that they can use their (volunteer) time effectively.
  • Horizon scan for opportunities for the Commission to be involved in high level projects that will shape the food system regionally.
  • Manage a diverse network of stakeholders engaged with the FixOurFood Commission, including managing a stakeholder database and related key communications.
  • Create and implement a communications strategy, including identifying key opportunities for influence, running social media platforms, maintaining the Commission website and producing any relevant publicity materials.
  • Pull together the information required for the Commission to make an application to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
  • Lead the practical organisation of events and meetings, including Commission board meetings.
  • Identify potential funding sources for the Commission and liaise with organisations in the region who are putting together a bid to the Climate Action Fund - Food Systems funding call.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed
  • Level 3 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include A levels. Please view the full list.) We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-UK qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
  • Project management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of setting up new processes/implementation.
  • Experience of managing websites and social media accounts (e.g. Bluesky, LinkedIn) and website maintenance.
  • Stakeholder and relationship management experience.
  • Experience organising and delivering face to face events and online events.
