The Opportunity

As Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial performance of a major infrastructure project, working closely with senior project leadership to maximise value, manage risk, and ensure successful project delivery.

This is a strategic leadership role requiring strong contractual expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to drive performance across both internal and external stakeholder groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all commercial activities across the project lifecycle.
  • Manage monthly cost and value reconciliation processes.
  • Oversee contract administration, variations, compensation events, claims, and change management procedures.
  • Support project leadership in identifying, managing, and mitigating commercial risks.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the project commercial team.
  • Drive procurement strategies to achieve the best commercial outcomes.
  • Manage project cash flow, WIP, forecasting, and financial performance.
  • Monitor and challenge project costs, ensuring accurate reporting and margin protection.
  • Work collaboratively with operational and planning teams to support programme delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for margin improvement and commercial optimisation.
  • Maintain robust project controls covering cost, value, production, and supply chain performance.
About You

We're looking for a commercially driven professional who can confidently operate within a major infrastructure environment.

You will ideally possess:

  • MRICS qualification or equivalent professional status.
  • Significant experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveying capacity.
  • Strong background within civil engineering, utilities, energy, power, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial management best practice.
  • Experience managing commercial teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, risk management, forecasting, and programme delivery.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
