Job Description
Commercial/ Legal Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team. The Commercial Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the commercial and legal aspects of our tender and construction projects, including contract reviews, procurement and contract negotiation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial management, excellent financial acumen, and a proven track record of delivering successful projects in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Review tender stage contracts and conduct high level and detailed mark-up review for consideration and forward submission
Lead contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other third parties to secure favourable terms and conditions.
Identify any commercial or legal risks associated with the tenders/ contracts
Involve in the tender and construction procurement process, including supplier selection, contract administration, and performance evaluation, to ensure timely delivery of materials and services
Conduct regular cost reviews and value engineering exercises to optimize project costs and enhance profitability.
Prepare activity schedules, forecasts and the like for tenders
Collaborate with Estimators, Estimating Managers/ Bid Manager, Design Management Engineers, Quantity Surveyors
Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements affecting the construction sector, adapting strategies and practices accordingly.
Prepare and agree LOI wording for minor or enabling works contracts

Skills and Experience

Based in HO in Glasgow
Report directly to the Deputy Managing Director
Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, civil engineering, construction management, or a related field. Chartered status or relevant professional qualifications (e.g., MRICS/CICES) preferred.
Ideally 10 years plus experience in civil engineering contracting
Strong knowledge of construction contracts i.e. NEC, FIDIC, SBBC contracts - including sub-contracts
