Senior Associate. Commercial IT and Outsourcing - Birmingham. Hybrid
Taylor Root is working with a leading UK commercial practice that is hiring a Senior Associate with 4+ PQE into its Commercial IT and Outsourcing team in Birmingham.
The team advises on commercial contracts that sit at the heart of how organisations operate. The work covers supply chain, logistics, outsourcing, technology procurement and data driven projects. Clients span automotive, aerospace, retail, life sciences, financial services, healthcare, telecoms and the public sector. A significant share of matters have an international element. This is not a support-led team. Around 90 percent of work comes from direct client relationships, providing earlier responsibility, closer client contact and exposure to decision makers. Recent work includes European supply chain restructures for a global manufacturer, IT and FM outsourcing for national organisations, SaaS and ERP procurements for regulated businesses, large-scale logistics arrangements for consumer brands and high-profile public sector programmes that involve complex risk and scrutiny. The team also advises mid-sized businesses on repeat and strategically important commercial contracts.
Role and responsibilities- The Senior Associate will draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of commercial contracts, including distribution, agency, supply of goods and services, logistics, manufacturing, procurement, consultancy and property and facilities management.
- Involvement in IT and outsourcing agreements, with day-to-day matter management and supervision of juniors where needed.
- Contribute to business development and innovation initiatives, including legal tech.
- UK qualified solicitor with at least 4 years PQE in commercial contracts.
- IT or outsourcing experience helps but is not required to be exclusive or deep.
- Strong negotiation, risk assessment in real time and ability to explain legal issues in commercial terms.
- Evidence of building client relationships; interest in improving how legal services are delivered.
- Work mix is broader than many commercial teams with earlier client contact.
- The team invests in development rather than relying on hierarchy.
- Hybrid working, flexibility and a clear route for progression.
