Contract type: Fixed Term - 18 months

At the City of Wolverhampton Council, we strive to be innovative and creative in the delivery of services and plans to promote community cohesion and improve outcomes for local communities. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced individual to join the Communities team as a Cohesion Officer.

The Communities Team leads on key themes including Vulnerable People, Homelessness Strategy and Migration, and Community Safety.

This is a busy and diverse role where you will support the delivery of community cohesion priorities, contributing to the Council's commitment to Wulfrunians living longer, healthier lives, and aligning directly with the Council Plan priority 'Healthy, Inclusive Communities'.

As the successful candidate you will work closely with and support the Prevent and Cohesion Co Ordinator in the effective delivery of the Hate Crime Plan and the CONTEST Strategy (Prevent, Protect and Prepare).

The Cohesion Officer works closely with key partners from within the Local Authority and across the statutory, voluntary and community sectors locally. Your ability to build and sustain positive partnerships will be a key part of this role. You will be a confident, engaging communicator with good analytical and organisational skills.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the cohesion and integration challenges that communities face, along with a working knowledge of equality and diversity. You will demonstrate a flexible approach in the delivery of interventions, engaging with and supporting all communities within the City.

The Cohesion Officer role is an exciting opportunity if you are passionate about working closely with communities and partners across Wolverhampton to help strengthen partnerships, empower and build community cohesion, resilience and a sense of belonging.

This post is subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

The successful candidate will be subject to Police security clearance checks.

Our Working Arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile, enabling employees to maximise performance while maintaining a healthy work life balance. Fixed work style roles work in a permanent council location; field work style roles require employees to be out in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location; flexible work style roles can be performed from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service needs.

Diversity and Equal Opportunities

We are committed to building a workforce that reflects the diverse community we serve and to ensuring that all employees and applicants are treated fairly and without discrimination. The Council uses the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and does not discrimination on the basis of a criminal conviction, and offers a guaranteed interview for eligible applicants.

Recruitment of Ex Offenders

The Council is committed to fair treatment of all employees, potential employees and users of council services regardless of offending background. The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is used for vacancies requiring a DB check to assess suitability for employment in positions of trust; no discrimination occurs based on DBS information.
