The Cluster Director of Purchasing is the strategic and operational lead for procurement, inventory, and logistics across a multi-property portfolio in the Eastern Caribbean. With a strong commercial mindset and a deep understanding of regional supply ecosystems, this leader is responsible for building a resilient, cost-efficient, and seasonally aligned supply chain.

The role involves forward-looking sourcing from local farmers and fisheries, managing customs and tax processes, recommending optimal storage and stock handling practices, and supporting culinary, engineering, and operational departments in making smart, timely material decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Sourcing & Local Integration

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with local farmers, fishers, producers, and regional cooperatives, aligning supply availability with operational forecasts.
  • Engage in contract farming agreements or future purchasing models to secure long-term produce supply based on seasonal harvests and forecasted F&B demand.
  • Establish direct trade agreements that minimize middlemen, improve quality control, and enhance sustainability.
  • Maintain an updated calendar of regional harvests, seafood seasons, and export availability, and share it regularly with culinary and purchasing teams.
  • Lead all international and regional import operations, ensuring compliance with customs procedures in Dominica and Grenada.
  • Optimize usage of CARICOM tax waivers, the Common External Tariff (CET), and tourism-related exemptions for cost-effective procurement.
  • Maintain proactive relations with customs officers, shipping agents, and relevant government entities to ensure timely clearances and minimize penalties or delays.

3. Purchasing Planning & Menu Support

  • Work closely with Executive Chefs to align menus with seasonal availability, optimizing use of fresh, local, or regional ingredients while controlling costs.
  • Recommend product substitutions or innovations based on price fluctuations, product cycles, and supplier reliability.
  • Create a rolling 3- to 6-month procurement forecast for major food categories, cleaning supplies, FF&E, OS&E, and engineering consumables.

4. Inventory, Warehousing & Stock Optimization

  • Oversee centralized or property-specific storerooms, ensuring proper stock rotation (FIFO/FEFO), space management, temperature control, and labeling.
  • Recommend upgrades or adjustments to storage infrastructure (e.g., cold rooms, dry storage expansion, racking systems) based on forecasted volume and seasonal bulk buys.
  • Develop and maintain par stock levels by department, with weekly, monthly, and quarterly review checkpoints.
  • Implement a robust stocktaking process and ensure stock variances are investigated, documented, and corrected.

5. Logistics & Distribution Management

  • Coordinate consolidated shipments across islands when feasible to reduce freight costs and carbon footprint.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, brokers, and third-party logistics providers to track ETAs and mitigate bottlenecks.
  • Support efficient internal logistics, ensuring materials are transferred smoothly between warehouse and point-of-use with minimal disruption.
  • Monitor market price trends for core ingredients and critical supplies; advise finance and operations on potential budget impacts or hedging opportunities.
  • Develop and track departmental KPIs, including cost savings, supplier performance, stock accuracy, and procurement cycle time.
  • Ensure all purchases are compliant with financial approval limits, procurement policies, and supplier due diligence processes.

7. Sustainability & Social Impact

  • Prioritize local, ethical, and sustainable sourcing that supports island economies and reduces environmental impact.
  • Eliminate unnecessary packaging, focus on environmentally safe packaging, prioritize bulk purchasing, increase use of eco-friendly alternatives, and work with suppliers to improve sustainability practices.
  • Identify and promote as preferred sustainable vendors.
  • Build internal awareness campaigns to promote the use of locally sourced ingredients and materials among teams and guests.
  • When possible, establish "Take Back" program.
  • Carry out periodic sustainability audits to vendors.
  • Closely collaborate with Sustainability Director/Manager in developing and carrying out the yearly sustainability action plan corresponding to purchasing, setting SMART goals.
  • Monitor and correct purchasing impact on waste management.
  • Track and report all sustainable actions.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of procurement or supply chain experience, with at least 3 years in a cluster or multi-property leadership role in hospitality or food service.
  • Familiarity with Dominica and Grenada customs, tax exemptions, agricultural markets, and logistics networks is a plus.
  • Managing CARICOM-based sourcing and regional supply chain dynamics is a plus
  • Proven track record in supplier negotiation, cost control, and operational procurement planning.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Hospitality; procurement or logistics certifications (e.g. CIPS, APICS, PMP) preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with inventory and procurement systems

Working Conditions

  • Based at either Dominica or Grenada property, with inter-island travel up to 25%.
  • Regular site visits to farms, ports, storage facilities, and supplier warehouses.
  • Involvement in cross-functional meetings with F&B, Engineering, Finance, and Sustainability Committees.

The salary range for this role is $55,000 - 60,000 USD annually.
