Who We Are

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we deliver health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient focused service providing triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.

Where We Are

Our Regional Centres are located at Aberdeen, Cardonald, Clydebank, Dundee and South Queensferry. This role is advertised for our South Queensferry Regional Centre.

This Role
  • As the service has evolved, we have been introducing new ways of working and there is now a unique opportunity for Nurses to perform high quality telephone assessments, but also to provide Clinical Supervision to members within a multi disciplinary team.
  • Act as an autonomous practitioner providing a comprehensive telephone triage and clinical assessment service to patients and/or their carers/relatives resulting in a safe and appropriate clinical decision
  • Provide real time clinical support to NHS24 frontline staff resulting in safe, appropriate and person centred outcomes
  • Facilitate the provision of accurate healthcare information, self care/health improvement advice or, where applicable, referral to the appropriate level and location of care, in order to meet the holistic and therapeutic requirements of the patient/carer
  • You will use a variety of different models to deliver clinical supervision to non clinical staff.
Who Are We Looking For?
  • You will be registered as an Adult nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register
  • You will possess excellent clinical decision making skills, with the ability to provide continuous clinical supervision and leadership
  • Extensive post registration experience, preferably within an acute or primary care setting, with a broad range of knowledge across a number of specialties
  • Critical decision making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Our Enhanced Salary Package

NHS 24 offers a total reward package, with a permanent contract on Band 6 £41,608 - £50,702 (pro rata for part time hours). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service. Competitive salary enhancements for working unsocial hours are in addition to the above basic starting salary of £41,608, with the following hourly rates applicable:

  • Basic Hourly Rate of £21.57
  • Saturday / After 8pm Weekday Hourly Rate of £32.34
  • Sunday / Public Holiday Hourly Rate of £43.13
Earning Potential Example

As NHS 24 is predominately an out of hours employer, earnings include payments for working evenings, nights, weekend shifts and public holidays. Example earnings for Clinical Supervisors on a starting salary of £41,608 working 37, 30 or 24 hours rotas with 5 out of 8 weekends are shown below (figures before deductions):

  • 37 hours: Monthly Basic Pay £3,647; Monthly Enhancements £1,248; Monthly total £4,715
  • 30 hours: Monthly Basic Pay £2,811; Monthly Enhancements £1,011; Monthly total £3,822
  • 24 hours: Monthly Basic Pay £2,248; Monthly Enhancements £809; Monthly total £3,057

Shift Patterns (Examples)

Shifts patterns may include: 16, 24 or 30 hours across an 8 week rota. Examples:

  • 16hrs - 8/8 weekends
  • 24hrs - 5/8 weekends
  • 30hrs - 5/8 weekends

NHS 24 shift patterns command an average uplift of 33% in addition to the basic salary. This is indicative and not guaranteed, depending on individual shift patterns.
