The post of CNM III Out of Hours provides professional and clinical leadership during non core hours, as directed by the Senior Nurse Management team. It carries site management responsibility across the seven day week, oversees designated clinical areas, manages staffing and staff development, facilitates communication across the healthcare teams, and covers in the absence of an ADON on duty reporting directly to the Director of Nursing. The role is pivotal in service planning, development, coordination, and management of activity and resources within the clinical area, ensuring quality of nursing care, policy implementation, activity monitoring, and delivery of agreed levels of service.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Exercise authority and coordinate functions of assigned area(s)
- Provide support, advice and direction to staff as required
- Engage with wider healthcare team and facilitate team building
- Facilitate communication at ward, service level, and within senior nurse management team
- Provide staff leadership and motivation conducive to good working relations and performance
- Promote a culture that values diversity, inclusivity and respect in the workplace
- Manage and promote liaisons with internal/external bodies (e.g., intra hospital service, community, voluntary organisations)
- Contribute to strategic management and planning process
- Formulate service plans and budgets in cooperation with wider healthcare team
- Lead on practice development within clinical area
- Manage resources, including staff, efficiently and effectively to ensure highest standards of service
- Evaluate implementation of service plan and budget
- Provide reports on activity and services as required
- Develop and manage departmental and nursing policy, emphasising change management and compliance with legal requirements, policies, protocols and procedures affecting service users and staff
- Engage in Information Technology developments applicable to service user and service administration
- Provide out of hours hospital management as required, in accordance with the DON and GM
- Rotation onto nights required
- Provide professional and clinical leadership
- Provide safe and comprehensive nursing care to service users within guidelines of the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland
- Practice nursing according to professional clinical guidelines, local policies, protocols, current legislation and accreditation guidelines (HIQA, CHKS, JCI, JAG, ISO, Lean)
- Manage, monitor and evaluate professional and clinical standards, ensuring an evidence based care planning approach
- Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post
- Participate in teams, communicate and work cooperatively with other team members
- Facilitate coordination, cooperation and liaison across healthcare teams and programmes
- Collaborate with service users, families, carers and other staff in treatment/care planning and support
- Communicate results of assessments, treatment programmes and recommendations to the Consultant and relevant others
- Formulate, manage and implement best practice policies and procedures
- Ensure service users and others are treated with dignity and respect
- Maintain nursing records in accordance with local service and professional standards
- Adhere to and contribute to nursing standards, protocols and guidelines consistent with the highest standards of patient care
- Evaluate and manage implementation of best practice policy and procedures (e.g., admission/discharge, stock and equipment usage, grievance and disciplinary procedures)
- Maintain professional standards in regard to confidentiality, ethics and legislation
- In consultation with other disciplines, implement and assess quality management programmes as appropriate
- Participate in clinical audit as required and ensure audits are performed in areas of responsibility
- Initiate and participate in research studies as appropriate
- Devise and implement Health Promotion programmes for service users as relevant to the post
- Operate within scope of practice, seeking advice and assistance for cases beyond professional competence
- Ensure staff work in compliance with scope of practice and code of professional conduct
- Contribute to service development through continuous education, research initiatives, and staying current with nursing literature and new developments in nursing management, education and practice
- Support staff engagement in continuous professional development
- Be familiar with the curriculum training programme for student nurses and the clinical experience required
- Participate in the identification, development and delivery of induction, education, training and development programmes for nursing and non nursing staff
- Provide support, supervision and professional development of appropriate staff
- Engage in performance review processes, including personal development planning, setting objectives and providing and receiving feedback
- Communicate effectively to undertake the duties of the post
- Demonstrate effective writing and presentation skills
- Foster good working relationships, maintaining a high professional standard in accordance with the Dignity at Work Policy and GDPR guidelines
- Ensure effective safety procedures are developed and managed to comply with statutory obligations, including health and safety, emergency procedures and infection control
- Take appropriate action on matters detrimental to staff and/or service user care or well being
- Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures (health and safety, infection control, controlled drug use, incident reporting)
- Maintain a feedback mechanism with the clinical risk manager and report to senior management where appropriate
- Ensure adherence to department policies regarding equipment and procurement, seeking advice from relevant stakeholders (e.g., Clinical Nurse Specialist, Infection Control, Biomed, Facilities, Pharmacy)
- Have working knowledge of HIQA Standards applicable to the role
- Registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMBI
- Minimum seven years post registration nursing experience in an acute hospital setting (full time or equivalent part time hours)
- Minimum two years experience at Clinical Nurse Manager Grade 2
- Recognised post registration nursing course - Higher Diploma or Post Graduate qualification essential, or willingness to undertake within a designated timeframe
- ACLS training complete or willingness to undertake within a designated timeframe

Salary: €71,184.87 - €80,390.87 per annum based on a 37 hour week.
