This one year, full time clinical fellowship position to attain advanced specialist clinical skills across the spectrum of neuromuscular diseases. The post will include inpatient and outpatient experience in the assessment, investigation, management and follow up of patients with acquired and inherited anterior horn cell, peripheral nerve, neuromuscular junction and muscle disorders. Supervision and instruction will be provided by consultant neurologists and clinical academics with established national and international standing in these disease areas. Candidates will have to opportunity to learn from observation and encouraged to develop autonomous clinical assessment and decision-making skills over the course of the fellowship. Multi-disciplinary engagement with specialist nursing, OT, physiotherapy, neuropsychology, neuropathology, neuroradiology and neurophysiology is integrated into daily practice. There will be the opportunity to perform an audit, quality improvement project or clinical research project under senior supervision. Attendance of national and international neuromuscular courses and conferences is encouraged as is presentation of original research work in these settings to help the fellow develop a strong reputation in the area and initiate career building networking opportunities.
Main duties of the jobThe Trust Grade Doctor will have primary charge of the day to day care of patients under the Neuromuscular firm. Clinical duties will include attending consultant ward rounds, attending outpatient clinics and mdt meetings. The post holder will provide neurological assessment and clerking at admission and discharge of all patients.

Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications- Completion of CMT training or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- Have completed the equivalent of two years higher specialty training in neurology or stroke.
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
- Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection, Good Clinical Practice and GDPR
- Experience working in the NHS
- Understanding of research methodology
- Management of medical or neurology inpatients
- Clinical Audit
- IT proficiency at advanced user level (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Database, Email).
- Completion of projects, audit, quality improvement and service developments related to Neurology
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients from a diverse range of backgrounds and with diverse clinical and social needs.
- Excellent written and oral communication with colleagues within a multidisciplinary ethos.
- Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Takes responsibility for own personal development plan
