Job Description
Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, rotational Clinical EducatorRadiographer/Technologist, based in busy Nuclear Medicine departments at StJamess University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. Nuclear Medicine atSt Jamess Hospital deals with a range of complex Nuclear Medicine scans,including many hybrid imaging techniques for both adult outpatients andinpatients. The department has 4 gamma cameras - 2 GE670s with diagnostic CTcapabilities, a GE640 Optima SPECT/CT and a GE 630 gamma camera. NuclearMedicine at Leeds General Infirmary provides the cardiac MPS and paediatricservices, as well as additional adult imaging capacity. The department has 2gamma cameras, a GE Discovery 530 dedicated cardiac scanner and a GE850SPECT/CT system. The department also delivers Band 7 ledAdenosine/Regadenoson stress sessions as part of the MPS imaging service. Thecandidate must have significant experience in a wide range of NuclearMedicine procedures, including hybrid and complex imaging, and managing dayto day running/leadership of a busy department. They would preferably haveexperience in education, lecturing and managing students. A Post Graduatequalification (or equivalent) in Nuclear Medicine is essential for this post.Candidates must have enthusiasm for patient care, work well in both a teamand independently and demonstrate their ability to work within the Leeds Waykey values.
Main duties of the job Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to develop and assist with the deliveryof a training programme for new and existing staff in Nuclear Medicine. Theywill encourage and support CPD within the department and be a key player inensuring our Nuclear Medicine service continues to advance and improve in thefuture. New gamma cameras are due to be fitted early in 2026, so will offergreat scope for learning and development of both staff and service. Thesuccessful candidate will also have an extensive knowledge of NuclearMedicine and requires demonstratable skills in dealing with the day-to-daymanagement of a demanding and challenging clinical service. They will beexpected to spend a proportion of their time working clinically at both sitesto support each team and remain clinically competent in all areas of theservice. The postholder will also be responsible for managing students andapprentices rotating through Nuclear Medicine as part of their learning.

Job responsibilities Thejob holder will play an essential role supporting the Head of Profession,Team managers and Senior Radiographers by facilitating education, trainingand practice development. They will ensure a high standard of education forall registered and unregistered radiology staff.
Thejob holder will work in partnership with management and is responsible forimplementing evidence-based, patient focused practice. They will in clinicalareas with the staff to facilitate the development of skills in order tointegrate education and practice development, thus enhancing quality caredelivery from both the registered and unregistered workforce.
Thejob holder will lead and facilitate audit and research and will function as arole model for staff within clinical areas, enabling and supporting thedevelopment of interdisciplinary and cross city working to ensure the sharingof good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care.
Theywill be expected to use highly developed analytical and judgmental skills tointerpret highly complex operator dependent images, accuratelydifferentiating between normal and abnormal appearances and to takeappropriate action as necessary.
Thepost holder will work autonomously, take a lead role as part of amulti-disciplinary team and undertake all radiological and specialisedimaging procedures within their area of expertise.
Toact as Operator, Practitioner and, where necessary, Referrer under theIonising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations, (IR(ME)R)2017).
Thepost holder will adhere to the clinical imaging criteria of the Trust and thecodes of conduct of the College of Radiographers and HCPC, whilst ensuringthe best interests of the patient are maintained at all times, includingacting as patients advocate as necessary.
Thepost holder will take an active role in the further development ofRadiographer role extension in an effort to increase the scope of practice ofthe profession as a whole and to improve the service to patients.
Take a leading role in thedevelopment and implementation of work policies and protocols within thespecialist area. Deputising for the Team Manager if required.
To participate in the production ofcomplex staffing rosters and workload.
Plan and prioritise workloadincluding liaison with other disciplines.
To be responsible for setting andmaintaining the standards for the radiographic service and ensuring juniorstaff comply with departmental and professional standards of practice.
To encourage and develop allradiography staff by being responsible for monitoring their performance andimplementing training and development programmes.
To be able to use expert knowledgeand clinical judgement to determine the alteration of an examination from thedepartmental protocols without consultation with Radiologists.
To facilitate the education ofother health professionals and possibly the general public, in healthpromotional activities and the uses of the different forms of radiologicalimaging modalities.
Take a lead role in training withinthe specialist field.
Collaborate with educationproviders in the co-ordination and delivery of clinical training for studentradiographers, graduate radiographers and post graduate radiographers fromwithin and external to the trust.
The post holder may be required toorganise, lecture or act as external examiner for undergraduate and / or postgraduate courses both at LTH and outside. E.g. Universities.
To assist in the development ofRadiographer extended role initiatives and participate in the development ofthe Radiographer Assistant / Assistant Practitioner programme.
To assist in the training of juniormedical staff, particularly with regard to the technical and / practicalaspects of specialised examinations.
To provide safety training inspecialist areas for staff both within and external to Radiology, e.g. ICUstaff.
In conjunction with Team Managerevaluate on-going clinical competence of radiographic staff as required.
To formulate and review acomprehensive induction / training programme for all staff new to the specialist area.
To be aware of innovations intechniques, equipment and applications in the field of radiography.
Develop and evaluate educationalprogrammes to ensure clinical areas are able to achieve and maintain anaccredited educational learning environment for all students, registered and unregisteredstaff.
