Job Description

An established multi-disciplinary consultancy is seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to join their growing team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a home-based role covering projects across South London, Surrey, West Sussex, Hampshire, and Berkshire. The successful candidate will join a well-regarded team of Clerks of Works, working on a range of new build and refurbishment residential schemes.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Clerk of Works to take on a varied role with a busy portfolio of live sites. You will be part of a wider network of Clerks of Works, responsible for ensuring construction quality and compliance through regular inspections, reporting, and liaison with contractors and project teams.

The Clerk of Works' role

As Clerk of Works, you will carry out regular inspections of construction projects, primarily residential developments. You will be responsible for monitoring progress, identifying defects, and verifying that all works meet the requirements of the contract documents, employer's requirements, Building Regulations, and warranty provider standards.

You'll produce detailed written reports with photographic evidence, manage defect trackers, and support clients during snagging, de-snagging, and end of defect period inspections. Strong communication skills are key, as you'll work closely with contractors, employer's agents, and project managers to ensure high-quality delivery.

To be successful in the Clerk of Works role, you will ideally have:

  • Membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI)

  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes and standards

  • Familiarity with JCT and NEC forms of contract

  • Strong report writing skills and attention to detail

  • Experience using site inspection software such as Field View or PlanRadar

  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle

In Return?

  • £45,000 - £55,000

  • Mileage reimbursement for site travel

  • Career progression and CPD support

  • Enhanced annual leave for long service

  • Sponsorship for further qualifications

  • Employee benefits including EAP and flexible leave options
