Job Description OverviewAtkinsRéalis is one of the world's leading providers of engineering, professional consulting, and support services, operating across Ireland and internationally. We are seeking a Civil / Structural Designer (Substations) to join our Energy team, based in Ireland.
The candidate will play a key role in the civil and structural design of electrical substations and associated infrastructure across a range of projects in the power, utilities, and infrastructure sectors. You will work within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the delivery of technically robust, safe, and compliant solutions for both public and private sector clients.

Responsibilities- Undertake civil and structural design for electrical substations, including foundations, buildings, steelwork, and associated infrastructure.
- Act as part of a multidisciplinary project team, coordinating with electrical, mechanical, and AIS/GIS specialists.
- Prepare and contribute to design calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports across feasibility, planning, tender, and construction stages.
- Support the production of technical proposals, bids, and client presentations as required.
- Carry out design assurance, checking, and peer reviews to ensure compliance with internal standards and statutory requirements.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities, including participation in meetings and workshops.
- Assist in the oversight and review of external design drawings, ensuring quality and alignment with design intent.
- Undertake site visits, FATs, and inspections as required to support project delivery.
- Contribute to risk identification and mitigation relating to safety, constructability, quality, and programme.
- Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, sustainability, and engineering integrity throughout the design lifecycle.
- Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience in civil and/or structural design, ideally within the power or utilities sector.
- Strong understanding of design principles, standards, and codes relevant to substation and infrastructure projects.
- Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings and calculations.
- Good working knowledge of design tools and MS Office applications.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Proactive approach to workload management, quality, and client delivery.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership (CEng / Chartered Engineer).
- Experience with substation projects, HV infrastructure, or similar complex engineering environments.
- Familiarity with structural analysis and detailing software.
- Experience contributing to projects through all stages of the design lifecycle.
- Previous involvement in client-facing roles, meetings, or proposal development.
