Role: Early Years Apprentice

Location: Knowle Green Day Nursery, Twyford, TW18 1AJ

Contract: 37.5 hours/week, 52 weeks/year

Working pattern: Varied shifts Monday Friday between 07:30 and 18:30

Start date window: August 18th - September 18th 2026

Salary: £8.00 per hour to start, rising to £10.41 per hour after six months; if aged 21 or over, a further increase to £12.74 after 12 months

About you

You are passionate about building a career with children and will care for babies and young children under five.

You are keen to learn, engaging in practical tasks and excited about planning and implementing high quality activities linked to the early years curriculum, promoting children's learning through play; observing, assessing and recording progress.

You are nurturing, empathetic and prioritise safety, ensuring each child feels safe, valued and happy and meets individual needs, while respecting policies and following direction from management and trainer/assessor.

You manage your time effectively, using off job learning time for studies and completing coursework by deadlines.

You are collaborative, enjoy partnership, have strong communication skills (verbal/written) and build positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues.

Responsibility overview

Your role will reside at the nursery, with a Trainer/Assessor from our academy visiting regularly to guide learning and you will attend group training sessions (once 6 8 weeks) at our academy in Newport Pagnell.

Qualifications required
  • Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification (initial assessment will determine level)
  • English and/or maths Functional Skills qualifications (or suitable equivalent as required by government/EYFS)
  • Paediatric first aid (certificate valid for 3 years)
Eligibility criteria
  • Right to work in the UK with appropriate documentation and National Insurance number
  • Photographic ID (valid passport or driving licence, full or provisional)
  • Computer access to complete online assessment and ongoing coursework
  • Residence in the UK for at least three years
  • Comfortable travelling to group training sessions in Newport Pagnell (travel costs covered)
  • Current residence within commutable distance of the nursery
  • Right to work in the UK - visa sponsorship not available
  • Enhanced DBS (or close equivalent) check required
