Work details

Role: Early Years Apprentice

Location: Devonshire Day Nursery, Chiswick, W4 2AH

Contract: 37.5 hours/week, 52 weeks/year. Working pattern: Varied shifts Monday Friday between 07 30.

Start date: August 18th - September 18th 2026.

Salary: £10.57 per hour to start, rising to £13.43 per hour after six months.

Responsibilities
  • Care for babies and young children under five.
  • Plan and implement engaging activities linked to the early years curriculum.
  • Observe, assess and record children's progress.
  • Ensure safety and well being of all children, meeting individual needs.
  • Follow all nursery policies, procedures, and directions from management and trainer/assessor.
  • Manage time effectively to balance work, training and coursework.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Interest in child development and early years education.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and engage in practical tasks.
  • Nurturing, empathetic, and prioritise safety at all times.
Training and Assessments
  • Trainer/Assessor will provide guidance at nursery and at group training sessions.
  • Attend regular group training at the academy (usually every 6-8 weeks).
  • Complete Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification.
  • Acquire English and maths functional skills qualifications if not already held.
  • Obtain a paediatric first aid qualification valid for three years.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Proof of Right to Work in the UK and a National Insurance number.
  • Valid photographic ID (passport or driving licence, full or provisional).
  • Access to a computer for online assessments and coursework.
  • Resident in the UK for at least the last three years.
  • Able to travel to training sessions at Newport Pagnell, MK16 8NJ.
  • Currently reside within commuting distance of the nursery.
  • No visa sponsorship available.
