What you'll be doing

This is a high-impact opportunity to play a vital role in shaping the technical direction of one of the most advanced propulsion programmes in the world - GCAP (Global Combat Air Programme).

As Chief of Component (CoC), you'll be a key member of the Project Technical Management Team (PTMT), accountable for the physical and functional definition of components on behalf of the Chief Engineer and Chief Design Engineer.

You'll lead design activity on the technology development programmes, demonstrator and the product, while also driving technical capability and mentoring engineering talent across the team. With visibility across multiple value streams, this role offers the chance to influence future propulsion solutions and advance your leadership profile in a strategically important programme.


Responsibilities

You'll be leading strategic and technical engineering efforts in one of our most exciting defence programmes:

  • Ensuring the quality and rigour of component-level definitions and approvals, aligned to programme objectives and technical requirements

  • Leading the technical efficacy of the component design process in accordance with the company best practices and needs of the project

  • Providing technical leadership, coaching and guidance to deployed engineers, while working closely with the wider ETS leadership

  • Supporting the development of standards, best practices and technical strategy within your area of specialism

  • Acting as a recognised technical authority, influencing decisions, driving innovation and advancing specialist knowledge across the organisation

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Professionally qualified engineer (UK minimum BEng or equivalent; higher degree preferred)

  • Chartered Engineer (UK CEng) or equivalent international registration

  • A deep understanding of specialist subject area, with the ability to influence technical direction at programme or enterprise level

  • Proven leadership experience in advanced technology development, with knowledge of Export Control and Intellectual Property requirements

To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance.
