Job Description

Reports To: Service Manager / Administrator
Hours: Mon-Thu: 12.30pm-4.30pm & Fri: 1pm-4.30pm (19.5 hours per week)
Location: Kavanagh House, 135 Emmet Road, Inchicore, Dublin 8
Contract Type: Community Employment Scheme Position
Open To: Individuals aged over 21, who have been in receipt of social welfare for 12 months or more

Community Employment (CE) positions provide social welfare recipients with an opportunity to learn new skills and gain confidence in a supportive environment.

Job Purpose

The reception & housekeeping role plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and clean environment for clients, visitors, and staff. The post holder will provide front of house reception support while ensuring that communal areas, offices, and client facilities are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. The role requires professionalism, confidentiality, and a compassionate approach when working within an addiction support setting.

Key Responsibilities Reception Duties
  • Greet and welcome clients, visitors, and external professionals in a respectful and non judgemental manner.
  • Answer telephone calls, take messages, and direct enquiries appropriately.
  • Monitor visitor sign in procedures.
  • Provide information about services and supports available.
  • Assist staff with administrative tasks, filing, and document management.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with organisational policies and data protection requirements.
  • Prepare, heat, and serve ready made meals for children attending the after school programme.
  • Ensure meals are served safely, hygienically, and on time.
  • Monitor and accommodate dietary requirements, allergies, and special dietary needs as directed.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and storage procedures always.
  • Ensure all food handling and storage comply with HACCP and organisational policies.
Housekeeping Duties
  • Clean and maintain reception areas, offices, meeting rooms, communal spaces, kitchen, and toilet facilities.
  • Ensure all areas are clean, safe, and presentable throughout the day.
  • Dispose of waste safely and in accordance with health and safety procedures.
  • Support the preparation of rooms for group sessions, meetings, and service activities.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices.
  • Basic IT skills, including email and Microsoft Office applications.
