A meat carver is a specialized culinary professional responsible for slicing, presenting, and serving cooked meats (such as roasts, poultry, or fish) in high end restaurants, hotels, or catering events. They ensure consistent portion control, deliver high quality customer service, maintain strict health and sanitation standards, and often manage carvery equipment and inventory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carving and Service: Expertly carve cooked meats to order for guests, ensuring attractive presentation.
  • Menu Knowledge: Explain meat options, sourcing, and preparation methods to customers.
  • Food Safety/Hygiene: Adhere strictly to health regulations, maintaining a clean, sanitized, and organized carvery station.
  • Customer Interaction: Provide professional service at live action stations, maintaining professionalism in fast paced environments.
  • Inventory & Preparation: Set up, maintain, and tear down carving stations, including managing heat lamps and specialized cutting tools.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Exceptional Knife Skills: Proven ability to handle carving knives, slicers, and sharpeners with precision.
  • Culinary Knowledge: Understanding of meat anatomy and proper temperatures.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a similar role (butcher, carver, or line cook) is generally required.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, handle repetitive motions, and lift heavy items.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for front facing service.
Physical Requirements
  • Safety Awareness: Handling sharp, specialized tools requires high safety standards to avoid injuries.
