Corrigenda is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Carpenter you will be responsible for delivering high-quality carpentry, joinery, and property maintenance services across Hampshire County Council's diverse estate. The post-holder will ensure all public buildings, schools, and corporate properties are maintained in a safe, functional, and compliant state, executing both reactive repairs and planned cyclical work. This role requires strong organisational and practical skills, the ability to follow technical instructions, and an understanding of safe working practices. The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the company's out-of-hours call-out rota, responding to emergency works across the contract area as required.
Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to) Technical & Carpentry Duties- First and Second Fix: Carry out 1st and 2nd fix carpentry tasks, including hanging doors, fitting frames, installing skirting boards, architraves, and kitchen units.
- Fire Door Compliance: Inspect, install, and remediate fire doors and frames to meet strict statutory regulations and fire safety legislation.
- General Repairs: Diagnose and repair structural wood defects, flooring, roofing timbers, window frames, and ironmongery.
- Multi-Trade Support: Undertake basic secondary trade tasks when required (e.g., minor plaster patching, tiling, or easing ironmongery) to complete jobs in a single visit.
- Mobile Working: Operate out of a mobile workshop/van to attend multiple council sites daily across the region.
- Public & Customer Liaison: Interact professionally and respectfully with council staff, school personnel, and members of the public, minimizing disruption during operational hours.
- Digital Logging: Use a smartphone or tablet device to receive work orders, log completion details, track time, and upload before-and-after photographic evidence.
- Regulatory Adherence: Execute all works in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and local authority building controls.
- Safe Environment: Maintain clean, safe working zones, especially when operating within live public environments or schools.
- Safeguarding: Strictly adhere to council safeguarding policies, remaining visible and identifiable via uniform and ID badges at all times.
Participate in the company's on-call rota and attend emergency call-outs outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, where required.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Essential- Full, clean UK driving license.
- Confident in driving a large transit-sized or flatbed van, with proper loading and securing of materials.
- Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative, and part of a team.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficient in using SMART devices and completing electronic documentation.
- Ability to pass DBS checks for work in schools.
- Health & Safety qualification or ability to obtain a CSCS card.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Capable of reading technical drawings and improvising solutions to maintenance challenges on site.
- Autonomy: Trustworthy to work completely unsupervised, manage stock economically, and keep an organized vehicle tool inventory.
