Job Description

Canteen Assistant

Site Location: Cannington, Somerset
Contract: Temporary Ongoing
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off, 06:00 - 18:00
Pay Rate: £13.53ph - OT £18ph after 48h

Due to continued business growth, gap personnel are currently seeking a Canteen Assistant to join a friendly and professional catering team based in Cannington.

As a Canteen Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the site canteen. You will be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality food, maintaining excellent hygiene standards, and providing outstanding customer service to employees and visitors.

Working as part of the catering team, you will help deliver daily KPIs, ensuring food safety, efficiency, and a positive dining experience for all customers.

As a Canteen Assistant / Cook, your role will include:
  • Preparing, cooking, and serving breakfasts and lunches to agreed standards.
  • Producing sandwiches, wraps, salads, buffet items, and grab-and-go products.
  • Maintaining high food hygiene standards and adhering to HACCP and allergen controls.
  • Ensuring all food is prepared and presented to a consistently high standard.
  • Operating tills and processing card payments accurately.
  • Providing friendly and professional customer service to employees and visitors.
  • Responding positively to customer enquiries and resolving issues where appropriate.
  • Completing all required food safety and production paperwork accurately.
  • Supporting stock control, stock rotation, and daily stock checks.
  • Minimising waste and promoting efficient use of food and resources.
  • Following Health & Safety procedures and promoting safe working practices.
  • Maintaining a clean and organised working environment, including deep cleaning activities.
  • Ensuring all preparation areas, equipment, and storage areas meet hygiene standards.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve daily targets and service expectations.
  • Supporting new starters with basic training and guidance when required.
  • Participating in team briefings and contributing ideas for continuous improvement.
