The role:The Buyer plays a strategically important part in our commercial strategy, enhancing profitability by negotiating and sourcing the best products at competitive prices. Working closely with Product Managers and under the guidance of the Purchasing Manager, you will execute purchasing strategies, track metrics, negotiate deals, and manage vendors to ensure optimal product availability at the right cost, quality, and quantity to support our LED lighting sales efforts.
Main Job Responsibilities:- Execute purchasing transactions, negotiate pricing, and benchmark suppliers regularly alongside other buyers.
- Understand product lifecycles and market dynamics to negotiate prices and coordinate with Product Managers.
- Build sales forecasts based on quotations and sales team inputs.
- Optimize stock levels to maximize sales and minimize inventory losses.
- Process and chase orders to ensure timely availability of goods.
- Liaise with suppliers on specifications and collaborate with design and marketing teams for necessary adjustments.
- Utilize demand forecasting and inventory planning tools to analyze sales data and inventory status.
- Develop relationships with suppliers and monitor competitors, providing feedback to Product Managers.
- Propose new products and report market and product developments.
- Coordinate with quality control and testing teams to ensure product certifications and inspections.
- Travel to suppliers in East Asia and attend trade shows as needed.
- Maintain relationships with European and East Asian vendors.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business Management, Contract Management, Procurement, or related field, with a CIPS qualification or similar.
- At least 3 years' purchasing experience, preferably in fast-moving electrical or electronic sectors, with a focus on semi-conductors or LED lighting.
- Strong financial, numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent negotiation, networking, and communication skills, with experience in negotiating with suppliers in the Far East and China, and fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese preferred.
- Proficiency in ERP software (preferably Epicor and StockIQ) and advanced Excel skills.
- High attention to detail and an entrepreneurial, commercial mindset.
