Historically, Plextek has developed a strong reputation and capability within the defence sector, and consequently this new role is to focus on markets outside of this.
Plextek now seeks a Business Development Lead who will drive growth in markets related to RF systems including; communications, sensing technologies, and radar solutions. This role bridges technical expertise with commercial strategy, identifying opportunities, engaging customers, qualifying leads, developing opportunities, and closing sales.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline which meets or exceeds revenue and growth targets
- Identify and develop business opportunities in RF, communications, sensing, and radar applications
- Analyse market trends, competitor positioning, and emerging technologies
- Translate complex RF and sensing technologies into clear value propositions
- Work closely with engineering teams to tailor solutions to customer needs and support proposal development
- Lead customer meetings, presentations, and negotiations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers
- Provide accurate forecasting and reporting
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows
The ideal candidate will have:
- A good first degree, preferably in engineering or physics
- At least 10 years of post-graduate work experience, with at least five years' proven experience in Business Development, preferably relating to consulting sales
- Strong understanding of RF systems, wireless communications, sensing, or radar technologies
- A passion for establishing new business relationships and building a significant leads and sales pipeline in markets outside of Defence
- A demonstrable track record of closing over £1m in new orders pa for a minimum of three years in a B2B service environment
- Proven ability to understand customers' strategic, commercial and technology challenges
- Established network within relevant industries
- Experience of research and development and the commercialisation of both technologies and products
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to develop and deliver effective sales campaigns
