You'll oversee a diverse portfolio of prestigious teaching courses, scientific meetings, fellowship programmes and research activities - helping ensure they run seamlessly, professionally and innovatively.

Main duties of the job

As BUI Teaching & Research Administration Manager, you will provide operational leadership across all teaching, research and external engagement activities within the Bristol Urological Institute.

You'll lead the delivery and continuous improvement of a complex portfolio of:

  • National and international teaching programmes
  • Scientific meetings and conferences
  • Fellowship and visitor programmes
  • Research governance and administration
  • Collaborative academic and clinical partnerships

You will also:

  • Lead and support administrative staff
  • Manage budgets, forecasting and income recovery
  • Oversee governance and compliance
  • Coordinate stakeholders across the NHS, academia and industry
  • Drive service improvement and operational excellence

This is a highly autonomous role requiring strong judgement, exceptional organisational skills and the confidence to manage multiple complex workstreams simultaneously.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Leading and managing the Teaching & Research administrative team, including staff supervision, performance management and workforce planning.
  • Overseeing the delivery of teaching courses, conferences and scientific meetings, ensuring high quality administration, stakeholder coordination and budget management.
  • Managing research and academic administration, including governance, contracts, compliance and support for collaborative research activity.
  • Holding responsibility for financial management across teaching and research activities, including budgeting, forecasting, income generation and financial reporting.
  • Coordinating support for fellows, postgraduate trainees and international visitors, ensuring onboarding and administrative processes are completed effectively.
  • Acting as a senior point of contact for national and international organisations and maintaining strong relationships with clinicians, academics, sponsors and external partners.
  • Leading service improvement initiatives, developing systems and processes to enhance efficiency, governance and sustainability.
  • Overseeing teaching and research facilities and ensuring effective resource utilisation.
  • Working autonomously to prioritise operational delivery, manage competing demands and resolve complex issues across multiple workstreams.
Person specification
  • Degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience in a relevant field (e.g. healthcare administration, business management, research, or science)
  • Significant experience in administrative or operational roles within a complex organisation (e.g. NHS, higher education, or research environment)
  • Experience of financial processes such as budget monitoring, reporting, or income tracking
  • Experience of working within research, academic, or teaching programme administration
  • Training in research governance, project management, or finance
  • Experience of service improvement, system development, or implementing new processes
  • Experience of working with external stakeholders, including national or international partners
