This role is critical in assessing the current landscape of Building Management Systems (BMS), IoT infrastructure, and connected assets across a range of sites. The ideal candidate will be confident in system discovery, evaluating Legacy and modern building systems, mapping data flows and assets, and advising on technical feasibility for future smart capabilities. You'll be working closely with stakeholders in engineering, facilities, sustainability, and IT.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform BMS and IoT system discovery across multiple sites and vendors.
- Conduct infrastructure reviews: assess existing BMS, IoT platforms, network architecture, and data connectivity.
- Map critical assets and data points relevant to smart building use cases (eg, HVAC, lighting, occupancy sensors).
- Assess integration capabilities between systems (eg, BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, APIs).
- Evaluate technical feasibility of proposed upgrades or new digital interventions.
- Identify opportunities and constraints in current systems for energy optimisation, predictive maintenance, or advanced analytics.
- Work with cross-functional teams to gather insights and validate findings.
Key Deliverables
- Infrastructure and systems map (BMS, IoT devices, protocols, data flows)
- Technical systems insights highlighting key risks, gaps, and upgrade potential
- Asset/data point inventory and mapping
- Feasibility assessment for system integration and digital enhancements
- Effort vs. Impact Matrix for prioritised opportunities
- Input to technical strategy or roadmap documents
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience with BMS platforms (eg, Trend, Siemens, Schneider, Honeywell) and IoT technologies in a built environment context
- Strong knowledge of building systems protocols and standards (BACnet, Modbus, KNX, MQTT, etc.)
- Experience with data point mapping, device discovery, and control logic understanding
- Strong analytical skills for assessing system architecture and integration capability
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation, maps, and impact assessments
- Good stakeholder communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
Desirable
- Experience in smart buildings, digital twin, or advanced BMS analytics platforms
- Familiarity with cloud-based BMS or IoT platforms (eg, Niagara, Azure IoT, AWS IoT, etc.)
- Understanding of cybersecurity in building systems
- Knowledge of energy efficiency, ESG, or sustainability applications in BMS/IoT
