Job Description
Overview

Lead Veterinary Surgeon on a 12-month fixed term contract at Birch Veterinary Centre with the opportunity to stay on in a permanent role after the fixed term. The role is a mix of consulting and operating/procedures within a busy first opinion 3 practice group.

We have a range of demographics in our growing client base, with many insured clients or those seeking the best for their pets, enabling comprehensive medical workups and extensive soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries. We also work closely with Merseyside Police, Guide Dogs for the Blind and other Wirral charities.

Rota

Work-life balance with flexible rota patterns and hours. Typical full-time role is 40 hours per week with a weekend rota of 1:3 (9am-1pm or 9am-2pm). Early finishes at 1pm or 4pm are available on certain days; reduced hours can be considered.

About us

You will join an experienced and supportive team of 6 Vets, 5 RVNs and 7 Support staff, with a well-established practice management structure. Coaching and mentoring are provided. We have two medicine cert holders and one pending, plus one surgical cert holder in practice.

Our main premises in Oxton have a long history of veterinary practice, with four consult rooms (including a nurse consult room), two theatres, a dental suite with a dental X-ray, digital X-ray via Vet CT, and an in-house lab including Idexx Lasercyte catalyst, multiparameter anaesthetic monitors, and an extensive range of soft tissue and orthopaedic equipment. Two additional smaller sites are consult-only but fully equipped for routine appointments.

The location

Wirral Peninsula offers attractive living with beaches, green spaces, and outdoor activities; Liverpool is approximately 10 minutes away by train or car for culture, shopping, or evenings out.
