Job Title: Behavioural Support Assistant - (Temporary)

Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester

Salary: £14+ per hour (30 hours)

Contract Type: Temporary / Full-time / Term-time

Contract Duration: Fixed-term contract until insert end date

Start Date: As soon as possible

We are seeking a motivated and resilient Behavioural Support Assistant to support students studying at a college in Stockport on a temporary basis. This role focuses on supporting learners who may experience behavioural, emotional, or engagement challenges, helping them remain focused, motivated, and successful in their studies.

You will work closely with Sport lecturers and the wider student support team to provide in-class and practical session support, ensuring students can fully participate in both classroom-based learning and sports activities.

  • Provide behavioural and pastoral support to students enrolled on BTEC Sport programmes.
  • Support students during classroom sessions, gym-based learning, and practical sports activities.
  • Help students manage behaviour, maintain engagement, and develop positive learning habits.
  • Build positive relationships with learners to support confidence, motivation, and personal development.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to implement behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Monitor student progress and behaviour, keeping accurate records where required.
  • Promote positive conduct, teamwork, and respect within the learning environment.
  • Support students in developing employability skills linked to sport and fitness careers.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about sport and passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning.

Essential Requirements:
  • Experience working with young people in an education, youth work, sports coaching, or support setting.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Interest in sport, fitness, or coaching.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and support teams.
Desirable:
  • Experience supporting learners with behavioural or emotional needs.
  • A qualification in sport, coaching, youth work, or education.
  • Understanding of behaviour management strategies within education settings.
  • Experience working in Further Education or with 16-19 learners.
  • A supportive and inclusive college environment.
