Job Description

Are you someone who can build strong relationships with young people, provide a positive role model and use their interests to help them engage, develop confidence and reach their potential?

Aspire People is recruiting Learning Support Assistants to work on a long-term basis within a specialist SEND school in Stockport, supporting secondary and college-aged pupils with a range of additional needs.

We're particularly interested in people who have developed strong relationship-building and mentoring skills through backgrounds such as sports coaching, youth work, children's residential care, mentoring, SEND support or other roles working with young people.

You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional route into education. For this school, your ability to connect with young people, remain calm and consistent and become a trusted, positive influence is incredibly important.

The Role

You'll work alongside an experienced SEND team, supporting young people to access their education and develop the wider skills they need for adulthood.

Depending on the pupils you're supporting, your role could involve:

Building strong and consistent relationships with young people.

Supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH and additional complex learning needs.

Helping pupils engage positively with learning and school life.

Supporting emotional regulation and behaviours that may challenge.

Providing clear boundaries, consistency and encouragement.

Supporting pupils individually, in small groups and within the classroom.

Using pupils' interests, including sport and physical activity where appropriate, to build rapport and encourage engagement.

Supporting confidence, independence, communication and social development.

Being a positive and aspirational role model for the young people you work with.

Could your experience transfer into SEND education?

We're keen to hear from people with backgrounds including:

Sports coaching and sports development

Children's residential care

Youth work

Mentoring

Behaviour support

SEND or Learning Support

Community and outreach work

Graduates from Sport, Psychology, Criminology, Youth Studies or related subjects

Experience within a SEND school is beneficial, but the right attitude, resilience and ability to build relationships are equally important.

You may already have experience supporting young people who can become dysregulated, disengaged or display behaviours that challenge. You'll understand the importance of remaining calm, not taking behaviour personally and providing the consistent boundaries, encouragement and positive relationships young people need to succeed.

Who will thrive in this environment?

We're looking for people who are:

Confident, resilient and emotionally mature.

Natural relationship builders.

Calm and consistent when situations become challenging.

Able to set clear boundaries while remaining approachable.

Energetic and willing to get involved in school life.

Comfortable working with secondary and college-aged pupils.

Passionate about helping young people with SEND recognise their strengths and reach their potential.

This isn't a role where you'll simply sit alongside a pupil in lessons.

You'll become part of a wider team supporting young people to engage with education, develop independence, build confidence and prepare for their next steps beyond school.

Why work with Aspire People?

We'll take the time to understand your experience, strengths and what you're looking for from your next role. You'll work with a dedicated consultant who can help you identify where your skills will have the greatest impact and put a plan in place to help you secure the right opportunity.

You'll also benefit from:

£95-£115 per day, depending on experience and assignment.

Full-time, long-term opportunities.

The chance to become an established part of a specialist school team.

Competitive pay that reflects your experience and responsibilities.

Ongoing support throughout your placement.

Aspire People's referral scheme - recommend friends or colleagues who would also be fantastic working with young people and you could earn a reward when they successfully work through us.

If you're the type of person young people naturally respond to - someone who can build rapport, provide consistency and be a positive influence - your experience could transfer incredibly well into specialist education.
