Behaviour Specialist - SEMH Schools (Skelmersdale)

Location: Skelmersdale, Lancashire

Job Type: Full-time / Term-time (flexible options available)

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Behaviour Specialist to support pupils within SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) schools in Skelmersdale. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who require additional behavioural and emotional support.

Working closely with teaching staff, SEN teams, and external professionals, you will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver targeted behaviour support strategies for students with SEMH needs
  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Support the implementation of behaviour management plans and risk assessments
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil behaviour and progress
  • Support de-escalation and promote emotional regulation techniques
About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced working with children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional needs
  • Calm, resilient, and patient under pressure
  • Confident in behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Passionate about supporting vulnerable learners to achieve their potential
Requirements
  • Previous experience in SEMH, SEN, or alternative provision settings (preferred)
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, youth work, or similar (desirable)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to work in the UK
