Essential skills:
- Experience operating in a business oversight Compliance role or alternatively a role setting overall strategic direction including designing end-to-end financial crime control frameworks.
- Experience in a financial crime related leadership role at Director level.
Desirable skills:
- Experience overseeing a Fintech payments business or other business which operates a rapidly evolving technology-based client offering.
- Experience presenting to entity Boards and engaging with Executive Committee level leaders.
Purpose of the role
To provide data-led expert oversight and check and challenge on business and compliance matters to ensure that the organisation operates in compliance with Barclays' legal, regulatory, and ethical responsibilities.
Accountabilities
- Identification and assessment of compliance risks through thorough reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing, and systems.
- Identification and investigation of potential market abuse, including but not limited to, Insider Dealing, Unlawful Disclosure, Market Manipulation, or Anti-Competitive Conduct.
- Conduct investigations of compliance risk events or breaches. Oversight and challenge of corrective actions and preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.
- Implementation of compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and ensuring that the bank's internal policies are aligned with international standards, including jurisdictional requirements.
- Collaboration with 1LOD, other relevant Compliance teams, legal, and risk management functions to facilitate a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management.
- Identification, investigation, and oversight of potential money laundering, terrorist financing, or other financial crimes.
Director Expectations
- Manage a business function, providing significant input to strategic initiatives. Influence policy and procedures, and manage complex projects.
- Lead a large team or sub-function, embedding a performance culture aligned with the company's values, or lead organization-wide projects as a technical expert.
- Provide expert advice to senior management and committees to influence decisions and strategic initiatives.
- Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
- Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
- Foster compliance and ensure regulations are observed, with relevant processes in place.
- Monitor and influence external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups when appropriate.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the function's integration with the business to achieve objectives.
- Maintain current sector knowledge and industry practices, and stay informed about market developments.
- Use analytical skills to solve complex problems and design solutions.
- Make significant decisions within own area, influencing stakeholders internally and externally.
- Act as principal contact for key clients and counterparts.
- Represent the function and business division as a spokesperson.
