Role OverviewWe are seeking a self-motivated and well-organised individual to join our growing team as a BESS Service & Maintenance Engineer. In this role, you will be have responsibility for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of battery energy storage systems at sites across Ireland, with a particular focus on mobile units.
This is an opportunity to join a high-growth division of Local Power Ltd, taking on significant responsibility in a role that is both technically demanding and at times customer-facing across various business sectors.
The role is predominantly field-based and requires regular national travel, including to Northern Ireland. You will be fully supported through structured technical training and backed by a dedicated office-based support team available 24/7, so you are never without the resources you need in the field.
You will be central to delivering a high-quality service experience for our clients while working at the forefront of Ireland's clean energy transition. The ability to nurture existing and/or develop business relationships, which leads to additional sales will be recognised and rewarded.

Key Responsibilities- Install and commission BESS units at customer and project sites across Ireland.
- Perform system checks covering battery modules, inverters, PCS (Power Conversion Systems), and EMS (Energy Management Systems).
- Ensure correct integration with grid, solar, or hybrid systems (e.g. generators, solar PV).
- Maintenance & Servicing
- Attend sites to diagnose and resolve faults in battery systems, power electronics, and control systems
- Replace or repair faulty components including battery modules, wiring, and cooling systems
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and site inspections
- Maintain accurate service logs and maintenance records in line with company procedures
- Identify and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues
- Perform root cause analysis for system failures
- Provide emergency on-site and remote technical support as required
- Monitoring & Performance Optimisation
- Monitor system performance once commissioned and on an ongoing basis
- Optimise battery performance, efficiency, and operational lifecycle
- Ensure effective thermal management and compliance with safety conditions
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all electrical safety standards and Safe Work Method Statements
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations & RAMS
- Maintain up-to-date Safe Pass and any other required Irish safety certifications
- Training Delivery
- Deliver handover training to clients & site operators
- Develop and maintain clear training materials and operator guides
- Support onboarding of client staff to ensure confident and safe use of BESS systems
- You will be required to travel to the UK for technical training
- Customer Support & Reporting
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients during field visits
- Provide clear technical reports and service documentation following each site visit, using our CRM
- Build strong working relationships with clients to support long-term service agreements
Education
- Level 7 or 8 NFQ is an advantage
- Safe Pass certification (required)
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of battery technologies (Lithium-ion, LFP, etc.)
- Proficient in power electronics, inverters, and LV/MV electrical systems
- Experience with Modbus, CANbus, and EMS/SCADA platforms
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in energy storage, solar PV, or power systems (preferred)
- Proven hands on field service experience in a similar technical role
- Prior experience in a customer facing role is desirable
Other Requirements
- Full, clean Irish driving licence (national travel required)
- Valid passport to travel to the UK for initial and periodic training
- Willingness and flexibility to travel nationally on a weekly basis
- Currently resident in the Republic of Ireland
