Job overview The Retail Food Service Assistant will be responsible for the provision of an efficient, safe and hygienic food service from Retail Catering Outlets operating within established food hygiene, safety practices, methods and procedures. This will include food preparation, cooking and serving of meals and dishes from the Restaurant counter to customers, using EPOS till system and following cashing up procedure

The post holder will be responsible for the safe and hygienic cleaning of front and back of house areas and all associated equipment.

The Retail Food Service Assistant must be receptive to individual customers service needs and assist them with using drinks machines and helping them get seated if needed.

The role will also include undertaking duties to provide a porter and cleaning service to the Retail department and to assist in the transportation of food stored in a chilled or frozen working and storage environment in the catering department to the Restaurant

To generally assist when required with other comparable tasks including Stock take, Saffron and the general stores as directed by their Assistant Duty Manager/Duty Manager

The post holder will need to be fully aware of the Trust's Values and Behaviours and Patient First initiatives and act accordingly.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide a high level of customer service to patients, staff and visitors
  • To clean allocated pieces of heavy catering equipment using instructions and cleaning materials
  • To dispose of waste materials from catering areas to designated collection points.
  • To operate industrial dishwashers in all catering areas.
  • To operate mechanical floor scrubbing and steam cleaning equipment.
  • To transport provisions, equipment and other catering related items as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds. As such, we are unable to provide sponsorship for this post. Applicants will therefore need to already have the right to work in the UK to be considered. We include this information at the outset to provide clarity and avoid unnecessary inconvenience for applicants.

To maintain clean working environment at all times, with special regard to hygiene.
  • To ensure that all food is prepared in the environment with due care and attention, particularly in regard to customers' special dietary requirements: for example, nut, dairy or wheat allergies.
  • Collate the number meal sold as required and generate associated Uniware system reports as necessary.
  • Printing of the Menu sheets for Lunch service ensuring that all the correct Allergen and Cost information has been captured and the sheets are printed in a timely manner to allow sufficient time for display.
  • Assisting with the receipt of deliveries, checking quantity and quality of goods; ensuring that due diligence is followed by checking and recording delivery temperatures as appropriate and compliance with the Trusts policies and procedures as required.
  • Reporting of variances in deliveries both internally and to the supplier arranging replacement deliveries or credit notes as appropriate.
  • Keeping accurate records of stock and inventory movement both inwards and outwards from display to storage at the end of the day.
  • Ensure all stock is rotated and stored correctly reducing wastage and ensuring compliance with necessary legislation as required.
  • To undertake occasional duties outside the normal routine but within the scope of the position and the department's activities.
  • To assist , as required , at special functions, some of which may occur outside normal working hours, for which you will be paid overtime.
  • To report any complaint or compliment and take action if at all possible.
  • To report any incident of accident, fire, theft, loss, damage and take action as may be appropriate or possible.

Person specification Experience and Qualifications
  • Understanding of written and verbal English Language
  • Wiling to undertake Training as required i.e COSHH, Infection Control, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Food Safety, Fire Safety and all other Training deemed mandatory
  • Experience working in a Team
  • Knowledge of Cleaning methods and equipment
  • Knowledge of Food practices and food presentation
  • Previous experience in Retail Catering and / or catering services in a hospital or healthcare environment
  • Understanding of COSHH, colour coded equipment (cross infection issues)
  • Experience of working in a Patient / Public Area
