Job overviewThe post holder will work as part of a team of catering staff responsible for the effective day to day delivery of food & beverage services across multiple sites. The service provides in excess of 20,000 meals per week to almost 1,000 hospital beds and various departments within the Trust.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder is required to supervise ward service assistants across approximately 25 ward areas, be on feet for the majority of the shift, and visit wards to support and monitor catering staff.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThis role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK and, if on a Graduate visa, must have at least 18 months remaining.
- Supervise the food and beverage service at ward level, ensuring compliance with food hygiene, HACCP and Health and Safety legislation.
- Ensure cleaning is maintained in ward pantry and associated areas in line with Trust cleaning regulations.
- Maintain excellent communication and working relationships within own team and with staff in other departments.
- Effectively communicate service issues or changes to the wider team to ensure information is communicated to all parties.
- Monitor and support ward service staff to ensure high standards are maintained, highlighting issues with processes and procedures, and explaining the correct methods of service.
- Liaise with dieticians, speech and language therapies, nurses and patients with complex dietary requirements and converse with the production team to decide upon suitable meal plans.
- Support ward service staff in responding to difficult situations, maintaining a professional and tactful approach with nursing staff.
- Make sound judgments to resolve issues as they arise, knowing when to engage escalation to ward service managers.
- Respond to staffing issues and cover rotas where required to maintain continuity of service.
- Food and Hygiene Certificate Level 2
- Good understanding of English and maths
- Experience of working in a catering environment
- Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision and to problem solve
- Experience in managing a team
- Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role)
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
