Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Senior HR Advisor to join our Adults and Specialist Rehabilitation HR Team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to expand their generalist HR expertise within a supportive and collaborative team.

As a Senior HR Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, specialist advice and support to managers and staff across the division. Your responsibilities will span all aspects of employee relations casework, sickness absence management, and organisational change. Reporting to the Assistant HR Business Partner, you will deliver a responsive, professional, and efficient employee relations service. The role involves cross-site working across Birmingham and regular travel to meetings throughout the day.

Main duties of the job

CIPD qualified (or equivalent). Demonstrable generalist HR experience, ideally within a large, complex organisation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels. Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities, with a flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to work autonomously. Willingness and ability to travel between sites across Birmingham as required. Job responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance and support on a wide range of employee relations issues, including absence management, investigations, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Manage a diverse caseload of employment matters, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Support the implementation of organisational change programmes.
  • Deliver training sessions to line managers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to handle HR issues confidently.
  • Respond to first-line HR queries from staff via the HR Enquiries inbox and phone system, on a rota basis.
  • Advise managers across the Trust on the interpretation and application of employment policies and procedures.
Qualifications / training
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development qualified (graduate member) or working towards with an equivalent level of experience at an appropriate level.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
Experience
  • Demonstrate a business-focused approach to Human Resource matters.
  • Experience of delivering front line advice and guidance to operational managers, advising on employee relations issues, supporting on change management projects and investigations.
  • Delivering training and presentations.
  • Contributing to new Human Resource policies.
Skills / Knowledge
  • Good knowledge of the full range of Human Resource policies and management procedures, statutory legislation and upcoming legislative changes.
  • Basic knowledge of workforce development tools and techniques.
  • A highly organised approach with the ability to work under pressure and manage priorities and deadlines in a changing environment.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Equality and Diversity.
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS Policy and guidelines.
