To take the lead on delegated responsibilities as defined by the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.? To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care forpatients.? In the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to be responsible for the day-to-daymanagement of the ward.? To manage a delegated group of Band 5 staff ensuring compliance of mandatory training andappraisal requirements.? To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients' feedback to maintain andimprove patient care.? To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
Main duties of the jobThe Junior Sister/Charge Nurse post provides an exciting opportunity for a candidate who is looking to develop their leadership skills. You will be given a mentorship team and be expected to deputise for the ward manager and support a busy ward with a complex patient flow. We are looking for a strong role model with good communication skills who can support a very dynamic and enthusiastic team. MAU is a 32 bedded Medical Admissions Unit with 10 monitored beds.
The MAU enables the rapid assessment, diagnosis, stabilisation and initial treatment of a wide range of acute medical conditions. Our aim is to provide high quality acute medical and multi-professional care for our patients, allowing speedy diagnosis, treatment and transfer, or discharge back to the community.
You will be encouraged to develop your clinical skills with particular focus on the management of deteriorating adults, assessment and management of acute admissions. The trust has a leadership development programme, which you will be encouraged to attend to support the wards quality improvement agenda.
You will be supported by the Ward Manager and a very engaged team of consultant acute physicians and a senior management team.

Person Specification Royal Free World Class Values- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
- At least 18 months experience as Band 5
- Post registration qualification in an acute specialty
- ILS/ ALS Course
- Significant post registration experience of working in Acute Medicine
- Evidence of experience in conducting quality audits
- Evidence of skills in managing junior staff
- Experience of co-mentoring and assessing student nurses on placement
- Experienced taking charge
- Quality Improvement Initiatives/ Improvement Projects
