Aviation Engineer - Defence

Contract | Inside IR35 | £400-450 per day | Abbey Wood - 2 days per week | Until March 2027 | SC Clearance

SR2 is partnering with an exciting client operating across complex UK defence programmes to find a Senior Complex Weapons/Aviation Engineer.

This is an engineering position supporting the development, integration, assurance and testing of complex weapon and aviation systems.

We're particularly interested in hearing from experienced defence engineers who have worked within DE&S, Dstl, MBDA, QinetiQ, defence aviation, the Armed Forces or similar complex engineering environments.

The Role

Working alongside the client and wider engineering stakeholders, you'll support complex engineering activity throughout the system life cycle.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting complex weapons and aviation engineering activities
  • Supporting weapons development and the integration of novel capabilities
  • Developing and maintaining System Requirements Documents (SRDs)
  • Developing and contributing to ITEAPs
  • Planning and supporting Test & Evaluation (T&E) activities
  • Leading/supporting Verification & Validation (V&V)
  • Managing the integration of novel systems and technologies
  • Reviewing and assuring supplier technical evidence
  • Supporting engineering safety and hazard activities
  • Contributing to aviation safety and airworthiness
  • Working with technical authorities, regulators and other key stakeholders
  • Supporting activity involving UK test ranges
  • Working across customer, supplier, engineering and programme teams to ensure technical requirements are understood and delivered

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally bring a strong combination of:

  • Significant experience within Complex Weapons, aviation, aerospace or defence engineering
  • Strong Systems Engineering knowledge
  • Weapons development and/or weapons integration experience
  • Practical experience of Test & Evaluation
  • Strong understanding of V&V
  • Experience developing or working with SRDs
  • Knowledge of ITEAPs or equivalent integration, test, evaluation and acceptance planning
  • Experience assuring supplier engineering outputs and technical evidence
  • Knowledge of safety, hazards and engineering assurance
  • Aviation and/or airworthiness experience
  • Experience delivering within highly regulated, safety-critical engineering environments
  • Strong stakeholder and supplier management skills
