Job Description

An automotive apprentice is a trainee who combines paid on the job training with classroom instruction to learn the skills required to become a fully qualified mechanic or service technician. Working alongside experienced professionals to inspect, maintain, and repair vehicles.

Highlights of what you will do in your Job
  • Carrying out foundation tasks common to all service and repair procedures.
  • Contributing to a safe and efficient workshop environment.
  • Accessing information such as wiring diagrams, technical data, and vehicle repair information.
  • Using complex diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspecting and preparing vehicles to quality standards.
  • Removing, repairing/replacing components to manufacturer's specification.
Personal Skills
  • Technically minded, practical, able to listen and follow instructions.
  • Able to work as part of a busy, fast moving team.
Essential job criteria

With mentoring, support, and monitoring whilst at work, combined with residential training, you will gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to achieve the qualification. Please Note: Off the job training is on a residential basis, with travel and accommodation costs covered by the employer.

Experience and Qualifications Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship

You will gain the Apprenticeship Standard Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) Level 3 qualification, with the chance to then undertake further manufacturer training.

  • Apprentice Rate (£8.00 per hr): Applies to apprentices under 19 or 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. Once an apprentice is 19 or older and past their first year, they move onto the standard minimum wage for their age: Age 18-20: £10.00/hr; Age 21+: £12.71/hr
