DESCRIPTION

Operations is at the heart of everything Amazon does, and automation is one of the ways we optimise our processes. As an Automation Engineer, you'll ensure that our automated systems operate at their best to deliver orders on time. By exploring data from control systems to sensors, you'll maximise equipment availability at our sites. This role places you at the forefront of Amazon's emerging technology to solve complex productivity challenges.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair issues with key systems
  2. Collaborate with the EU Controls network to monitor Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics
  3. Provide data visualisations of troubleshooting to internal stakeholders
  4. Own or participate in continuous improvement projects within the EU Controls network
  5. Coordinate with different departments to ensure proper documentation and backup libraries
  6. Assist in installing and commissioning new equipment with global colleagues
  7. Support other sites in the EU Controls network as needed
  8. Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings; develop improvement strategies conforming to IEC 61131-3
A day in the life

As an Automation Engineer, you'll be the site expert in maintaining key automated systems. You'll work with automation machinery like conveyors and sortation systems, ensuring efficiency. When issues arise or improvements are possible, you'll lead the development and implementation of solutions.

You will also share your expertise with colleagues, training Engineering Technicians in device troubleshooting and preventative maintenance to keep systems in optimal condition.

About the team

Our Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team maintains the performance of our equipment. We are a technically skilled team guided by experienced leaders, working to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment across Amazon's global network of fulfilment centres. Our work includes installing automated systems, overseeing maintenance, and ensuring safety and efficiency, with opportunities for career progression.

We focus on reducing downtime to ensure timely customer orders. Our work often occurs during off-hours to minimize disruption, and we innovate with new processes and technologies like Amazon Robotics and the Complex Item Sorter.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with PLC-controlled automation and troubleshooting in a continuous process or production environment
  • Experience supporting conveyors and sortation systems
  • Knowledge of material handling, flow, capacity visualization, and monitoring
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office, project management tools, EPLAN, Ladder Logic, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Codesys PLCs, Ignition SCADA, HMI, EthernetIP, Profinet, Profibus, AS-i, VFDs, safety gateways, and I/O devices
  • Fluent in English and the local language, both verbal and written
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, industrial electronics, or related technical field
  • Experience with ISO 13849 and ISO 62061 standards
  • Experience working across multiple sites
  • Project management experience with frameworks like Agile and Waterfall
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, data analysis, or process improvement techniques
