About You

We are looking for a personable self-starter with the ability to project a positive 'can-do' professional attitude at all times, maintaining good working relationships. You enjoy working collaboratively across disciplines and can establish excellent rapport within the team, with clients, and across the business. You can work under pressure, handle a varied workload, meet tight deadlines, and maintain the highest level of technical excellence.

Primary Objective

As an Associate Director, you will manage the Structures group, monitor and deliver projects effectively, ensure technical quality, and oversee all design activities to meet deadlines. You will also monitor and coach staff performance, implement training, QA, and health and safety protocols.

In the role of Associate Structures Director, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Monitor project resource allocation, CAD requirements, and workload forecasts.
  • Carry out engineering design from concept to detailed design, tendering, site supervision, and project completion, ensuring adherence to design briefs and deadlines.
  • Ensure all projects and reports are technically compliant and maintain quality standards through regular reviews.
  • Manage contract staff and third-party appointments.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships to achieve satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Develop new business opportunities and participate in company presentations.
  • Motivate and manage staff to build high-performing teams, set objectives, monitor performance, and develop staff potential.
  • Control project progress, manage design variations, and oversee budgets.
  • Implement management systems, coordinate staff leave, and carry out staff development plans.
  • Ensure QA and health and safety systems are implemented and maintained.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001 and 14001 standards and respond to CDM regulations.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • BEng, MSc, or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering or relevant field.
  • Chartered Engineer or pursuing chartered status with ICE, IStructE, or relevant body.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a design consultancy, managing projects.
  • Experience monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments is desirable.
  • Proficiency in computer modeling, CAD, and effective communication with other consultants.
  • Experience in similar roles is preferred.
  • Competency in MS Office and project analysis software.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing teams across locations.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting to executives and large audiences.
  • Active participation in our employee-owned culture is essential.
