Associate Project Director - Monklands Replacement

Are you an experienced project leader ready to deliver one of Scotland's most significant healthcare infrastructure projects? NHS Lanarkshire is seeking an exceptional Associate Project Director to help lead the Monklands Replacement Project (MRP)-a major capital programme to deliver a new, state-of-the-art acute general hospital.
You will play a pivotal role in the construction, service transition, commissioning, and evaluation of the new facility, working closely with the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO), the Project Director and a multi-disciplinary project team. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of healthcare for Lanarkshire and beyond.
Key Responsibilities- Provide senior leadership to deliver the Monklands Replacement Project across all phases: construction, service transition, commissioning, and post-project evaluation.
- Support the Project Director in leading the MRP team, ensuring project objectives and benefits are achieved.
- Implement robust frameworks for accountability, governance, risk management, quality, and change control.
- Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary project team, including main contractor, technical advisors and external consultants.
- Engage and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders across NHS Board, government, clinicians, unions, local authorities, and the public.
- Deputise for the Project Director as required and act as a main point of contact between the Project Director and project team and main contractor team.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management, the NHS Board, and Scottish Government.
Essential:
- Educated to Master's degree level or equivalent, with evidence of continuing professional development.
- Significant senior-level experience in leading and managing large-scale, complex public sector projects, ideally in healthcare.
- In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, NHS/public sector capital planning, and project/programme management techniques.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and deliver value for money.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and leadership abilities.
- Professional qualification or membership of a relevant project management body.
Desirable:
- Experience of partnership working across complex organisations.
- Knowledge of NHS policies, estate code, and guidance.
- Experience of delivering major service change programmes and working with challenging stakeholder groups.
