THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIESFor this role, we are looking for an Associate Mechanical Engineer who can lead change and mentor engineers within their team ensuring best in class engineering. As an Associate Mechanical Engineer with EDC, you will be expected to have a thorough understanding of the theoretical and practical application of their engineering discipline, and a strong understanding of the other disciplines offered by the company while also leading and managing the full Electrical Design on projects of all sizes.
- Lead the delivery of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering projects across all stages, taking full ownership of programme, quality, coordination, and overall project outcomes.
- Undertake and oversee Mechanical design work as required, ensuring technical excellence from concept through to construction.
- Manage the Mechanical and Electrical design process to ensure all deliverables meet project requirements, programme, and relevant standards.
- Provide clear direction and leadership to project teams, including Senior Engineers and junior staff, ensuring accountability and effective performance across all project activities.
- Manage project resources and support the planning and organisation of team workload to achieve efficient and timely delivery.
- Take ownership of project cost control, maintaining awareness of budget, resource utilisation, and overall project performance, with responsibility for commercial and resource decisions on projects where appropriate.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, leading technical discussions, managing expectations, and supporting the development of strong and lasting client relationships.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their development and progression, and contributing to capability building within the team.
- Ensure quality control across Mechanical Engineering outputs and drive consistency of technical standards across projects.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and efficient project delivery.
- Drive the implementation and adoption of new systems, technologies, and processes where appropriate.
- Assist BIM and modelling teams in producing coordinated 3D models and detailed engineering drawings.
- Attend and lead design meetings, workshops, and site visits as required.
- Travel to client and project locations where necessary to represent EDC professionally.
- Maintain and promote the reputation of EDC within the industry and contribute to the development of client relationships, including supporting business development activities where required.
- Collaborate with colleagues across EDC offices to support project delivery and business objectives.
- Demonstrate ongoing development of leadership, commercial, and strategic capabilities in line with progression towards Associate Director.
Follow EDC's Environmental Management System (EMS), including all related policies, procedures, and training.
Perform duties in a manner that supports the company's environmental objectives and sustainability commitments.
Work from home arrangements to be agreed with the line manager. The current expectation is office attendance three days per week, with flexibility to balance business and personal needs.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE- Minimum Degree level in Mechanical Engineering
- 6+ years Building Services Consultancy Design experience
- Expert user of Microsoft Office
- Experience with thermal modelling, energy assessment, dynamic energy modelling software advantageous
- Commercial sector knowledge and BIM experience a strong advantage
- Chartership desirable
- Proven experience of delivering detailed designs through the full design cycle
- Expert knowledge and experience in the following Mechanical design areas: Water Services, Heating / LTHW, HVAC, Fuel, above ground drainage and BMS
- Deep knowledge of building regulations, particularly TGD part B, F, G, L and the ability to demonstrate this knowledge in design and project lead
- Excel at working on several projects simultaneously and show the ability to prioritise and plan work
- Ability to lead projects internally and externally and be responsible for project performances, including satisfied clients, profitable projects, and maintaining EDC's reputation to enable repeat work
- Demonstrate a good understanding of other building disciplines in the design and installation of buildings
- Exhibit leadership qualities while working as part of a team
