Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
Role OverviewTransport for London is looking for a qualified lawyer (solicitor or barrister) to join our in-house Public and Regulatory Law team. TfL's Legal Department works closely with the Greater London Authority (GLA), Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime, and other functional bodies to deliver legal advice on matters that affect the lives of millions.
As an Associate Lawyer in the Public and Regulatory Law Team, you will provide high-quality legal advice on regulatory and public law issues, helping to ensure TfL's operations and policy decisions are compliant and defendable.

The roleYou'll be a strategic adviser to the TfL business, as well as to the Mayor of London, the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime and other organisations in the Greater London Authority group. You will provide high quality, customer-focused legal advice and support in the area of public and regulatory law, including governance matters.
The role provides an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile issues including advising on statutory powers, the drafting of secondary legislation and the regulation of the taxis, private hire vehicles and pedicabs, considering the impact of new legislation on TfL and other organisations in the Greater London Authority group, judicial reviews and road user charging. You will also be expected to prepare and provide briefings and training on the impact of changing legislation, case law and best practice.
What you'll need- Educated to degree level or equivalent, you'll be a qualified solicitor or barrister having completed pupillage, with a proven track record of advising in both contentious and non-contentious public and regulatory law and matters of governance.
- You should have experience of handling judicial review litigation and have advised on the exercise of statutory powers.
- You'll use your good judgment, commercial awareness and innovative problem solving skills to deliver pragmatic solutions and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to build effective client relationships and have a strong, supportive team ethic will be essential.
