Job Description Associate Director - Planning

Location: Lewes or Guildford

Full Time Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate Director to join a well-established and highly regarded planning consultancy, based in either Lewes or Guildford.

This is a senior role offering the chance to lead a diverse range of planning projects while playing a key part in growing client relationships and contributing to the continued success of a high-performing team.

The Role

You will work across a broad and varied portfolio of projects, including:

  • Planning applications and appeals
  • Local Plan representations and site promotion
  • Strategic land and development projects for landowners, developers and promoters

You will take ownership of your own projects while also supporting senior colleagues on more complex schemes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing commercial planning advice to a wide range of clients
  • Managing projects from inception through to delivery
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Supporting business development and identifying new opportunities
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members
  • Delivering high-quality work to meet client expectations
About You

The ideal candidate will be:

  • MRTPI Chartered with a strong track record of career progression
  • Experienced in managing clients at all levels
  • A confident communicator with excellent written skills
  • Commercially aware with a strong understanding of the planning market
  • A proactive and creative problem solver
  • Motivated, flexible and able to work both independently and as part of a team

You will also be:

  • Comfortable managing competing priorities and deadlines
  • Organised and efficient in managing time and budgets
  • Keen to develop your own client base and professional profile
  • Able to build strong relationships internally and externally
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Excellent analytical and research capabilities
  • High attention to detail and quality of work
  • Ability to think strategically and identify opportunities
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office
