An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacist to lead the Medicines Safety services at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS FT. You will be one of four associate directors of pharmacy reporting directly to the Chief Pharmacist.
The role is mainly based at Royal Preston Hospital, with opportunities to work at Chorley Hospital or off-site.
We are seeking a forward-thinking, dynamic pharmacist with senior pharmacy management and service delivery experience who can lead, develop, and motivate teams to ensure high standards and represent pharmacy both internally and externally.
Main duties of the jobStrategically lead the Medicines Management team within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Develop and implement the trust Medicines Optimisation Strategy, ensuring alignment with the ICS Medicines Optimisation Strategy.
The Lead is an expert in Medicines Safety, Education, and Innovation, representing the Trust in matters related to Medicines Safety, Education, Governance, Risk, and Compliance locally and nationally.
As part of the Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team, the Lead Pharmacist supports the Director of Pharmacy, Divisional, and Board Directors in delivering plans, strategies, and service changes to meet the trust's aims and ambitions.
The Lead is responsible for six specialist functions: Medicines Education, Medicines Safety, Medicines Governance, EPMA and IT, Research and Clinical Trials, and the Administration Team. The Lead oversees operational leadership, financial control, and strategic growth of these functions within the organization and in collaboration with external partners.
Responsible for all aspects of Medicines Education across the organization.

Job responsibilitiesDuties include but are not limited to:
- Undertake the role of Trust MSO.
- Lead the Medicines Safety team.
- Manage Medication-related Safety Alerts, Shortages, NPSA reviews, CQC requests, and responses, implementing action and improvement plans.
- Conduct investigations, develop PSIIs, and thematic reviews.
- Participate in coroners inquests and other investigations as required.
- Organize the Medicines Governance Committee, ensuring high-quality submissions with community implications considered in collaboration with ICS colleagues.
- Oversee Medicines Education for undergraduate medical, dental, junior doctors, nursing, pharmacy trainees, and unregistered staff.
- Provide quality assurance reports on education and seek funding for staff CPD.
- Collaborate with HEE and ICS Workforce groups.
- Lead the EPMA & IT teams.
- Ensure community services meet regulatory compliance.

Person Specification Qualifications- MPharm or equivalent
- Registration as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Minimum 8 years post-registration hospital experience, including at least 2 years in a senior role.
- Extensive knowledge of Safety, Education, Governance, Formulary, Regulation, and Compliance.
- Understanding of NHS commissioning and formulary processes.
- Knowledge of Medicines legislation, the role of the MSO, and CQC expectations.
- Experience in strategic planning and service development.
- Strong service and personnel management skills.
- Ability to interpret complex data and present key messages clearly.
- Proven track record in service improvement.
- Experience in workforce development.
- Experience in acute Trust or Tertiary Referral Centers.
- Knowledge of current NHS policies and commissioning agendas.
- Experience in training diverse staff groups.
