Associate Director & Head of Insurance Practice - Captive & Insurance Management (Ireland)

Are you ready to lead a market leading insurance practice in one of Europe's premier captive hubs? Do you want to shape innovative risk financing solutions for some of Aon's most sophisticated clients? Join our growing Aon Captive & Insurance Management team in Dublin and help redefine how clients think about risk capital!

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Dublin office, in line with our smart working policy.

Aon is in the business of better decisions

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.

As an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

As Associate Director & Head of Insurance Practice, you will lead Aon's Insurance Practice within our Captive & Insurance Management (ACIM) business in Dublin. Captives are at the core of Aon's Risk Capital Strategy, and you will play a key role in helping clients optimise risk financing through alternative, non traditional sources of risk capital.

  • Manage a portfolio of 4-5 captive insurance and reinsurance clients, leading ACIM service teams to deliver top quality captive management services.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their evolving risk landscape and identify Aon solutions - including captives, structured reinsurance, cat bonds, parametric and facultative reinsurance - to configure risk transfer programs and optimise risk financing.
  • Lead a strong team of insurance professionals across underwriting, claims and risk financing, supported by our dedicated Global Capability Centres (GCC), ensuring high quality service delivery and innovation.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for client stakeholders, regulators and internal partners, demonstrating strong technical, commercial and relationship management capability.
  • Contribute to the broader management of ACIM Ireland by supporting operational excellence, colleague development and continuous improvement in how we deliver for clients.

How this opportunity is different

Aon's Captive & Insurance Management business in Dublin continues to grow, working more strategically with our clients and our Aon Risk Capital colleagues to develop and deliver new solutions to an evolving risk landscape. Our Dublin team is the leading provider of outsourcing and consulting services to captive insurance and reinsurance companies in Ireland.

  • Sit on the Senior Management Team, reporting to the Managing Director and collaborating closely with the heads of our four practice groups - Insurance, Finance, Compliance and Consulting - to deliver financial and business results in line with our strategic objectives.
  • Operate at the heart of Aon's Risk Capital Strategy approach. Help clients use third party balance sheets and alternative risk transfer (ART) structures to increase value.
  • Benefit from Aon's global network, data and analytics, and our Global Capability Centres, giving you access to specialist expertise and scalable support so you can focus on high value advisory and leadership.
  • Help develop the future of the Irish captive market by bringing innovative risk financing and insurance solutions to sophisticated corporate and reinsurance clients.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Strong client servicing skills, with a track record of building trusted, long term relationships and delivering high quality solutions.
  • Demonstrate proven track record to develop, lead and encourage a professional team in a regulated insurance, reinsurance, captive or related financial services environment.
  • Hold a relevant professional insurance qualification, with a minimum of 8 years' post qualified experience within or supporting a regulated insurance/reinsurance/captive insurer or similar, or within corporate risk management/risk finance.
  • Have a strong understanding of risk finance principles and of the financial reporting, regulatory and compliance environment governing insurance, reinsurance and/or captives.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving skills and commercial awareness, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical, value driven client outcomes.
