Job Description
WVPU is currently looking to fill 2 full-time (40h/week) faculty positions (f/m/d) to expand and strengthen our diverse research sections in the Department of Computer Science. 2 positions to be filled (Assistant/Associate Professor) with starting dates in January and September 2026. We welcome research profiles that strengthen our department in both applications and foundations of machine learning and artificial intelligence (e.g., applied mathematics and statistics, computer vision, signal processing, time series analysis). Candidates are required to have a strong scientific background and a well-established network in the relevant fields. Responsibilities: The following criteria are required for the job depending on working experience and level of professorship (Assistant, Associate Professor, or Full Professor). For the more experienced profiles we expect more academic seniority in all aspects of the required academic profile. a) Publications: Produce career stage appropriate academic publications (peer-reviewed journals and books/book chapters) in line with university research evaluation policies. b) Third-Party Funding Successfully acquire third party funding to advance individual research objectives. c) International visibility (scientific) and cooperation Regularly present papers and research activities at international scientific conferences, participate in peer-review processes, serve on editorial boards, and external PhD defence committees. d) Third Mission and Public outreach Publicly disseminate findings from research and teaching to society and the economy. e) Teaching Maintain a regular teaching load (with a minimum of 1 course/year up to a maximum of 6 courses/year, depending on the activities in other areas). f) Mentorship and leadership At all levels, faculty supervise student research, but also research assistants, doctoral students working on projects, as well as colleagues where appropriate and scientific support staff. Depending on rank, acquire individual research teams through third-party funding. Requirements: For the more experienced profiles we expect more academic seniority in all aspects of the required academic profile: PhD in a relevant field; Demonstrated commitment to advance scientific research; Proven participation in third party funded research teams and projects; Demonstrated pedagogic and didactic success in university-level teaching; Active international engagement with academic and non-academic stakeholders; Fluency in English. For Associate and Full Professor positions additionally: A habilitation or equivalent post-doctoral experience; A distinguished track-record in acquiring and leading externally funded high-level research projects and grants as Principal Investigator; and supervising young academic researchers including doctoral students; Experience in supervising PhD students; Outstanding scientific reputation with internationally recognized peer-reviewed publications and active conferences participation; Proven track record in developing curricula; Demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
