Sandwell Children's Trust is committed to ensuring that children and young people are heard, respected and involved in decisions that affect their lives.
As part of our Working Together Strategy and the Families First Programme, we are seeking to recruit an Assistant Voice Officer to join our Voice & Engagement Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in amplifying the voices of children and young people and shaping services that truly reflect their needs.
About the RoleThe Assistant Voice Officer will work directly with children and young people across a range of cohorts, including:
- Families First
- Children in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP)
- Children and young people with SEND
You will build trusted relationships, ensuring children feel safe, heard and empowered to share their experiences. Their views will be used to inform, influence and improve both individual care planning and wider service delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake direct engagement and participation work with children and young people, including home visits
- Develop creative and accessible ways to capture children's views and experiences
- Support children and young people to engage with senior leaders, forums and decision makers
- Facilitate participation groups, activities and engagement events
- Work collaboratively with social workers, Families First teams, SEND services and partner agencies
- Accurately record and present children's voices in reports and outputs
- Contribute to service design, improvement and co production activity
- Support practitioners to embed meaningful participation within their practice
- Assist in developing resources, materials and opportunities that promote children's rights and participation.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about children's rights, voice and participation, and who can connect with children from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Experience of working directly with children and young people, particularly those from vulnerable groups (e.g. Families First, CIN, CP, SEND)
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for different needs and abilities
- The ability to build trusting, respectful relationships and engage children in meaningful ways
- An understanding of participation, engagement and the importance of children having a voice
- Resilience, empathy and a commitment to inclusive practice
- Good written and IT skills, with the ability to present children's views clearly and accurately
- A relevant qualification at NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), or demonstrable experience working with children and young people, is required.
