We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Assistant Psychologist to join our Clinical Health Psychology Service.

You will work closely with a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and a team of psychological professionals working into Haematology within Cancer care. You will be supported by a large & team of psychological professionals within the UHS Adult Psychology team.

You will need to be keen to work flexibly within the MDT and have well developed interpersonal skills. You will need to be able to work with people who are quite physically unwell and be able to reflect on how you manage this.

As this is a Senior Assistant Psychologist role, applicants MUST have experience of working as a paid assistant psychologist or PWP, and preferably have some experience of working with issues connected to physical health. The hospital is a busy and vibrant setting to work in but also demands the ability to work flexibly and responsively. It offers many opportunities to develop your interest in therapeutic approaches through informal networking, facilitated reflective practice, education days and specialist supervision.

Main duties of the job

Your role is to work alongside the psychologists to develop processes and interventions to enhance wellbeing, for patients and team members. Within the Haematology service, you will work within the BMT team and CAR-T service on projects, including the provision of screening across the transplant pathway and prehab for CAR-T.

As a part of this work, you will be evaluating interventions and assisting in some clinically relevant administration tasks. The work will involve working with patients directly and you will hold a small case load whilst being supported and supervised by the team psychologists.

The post will be managed and supervised by a psychologist or psychological therapist and will be supported by other psychologists working into the wider hospital. You will also be encouraged to join a group with other Assistant Psychologists within the hospital and join in with continuing professional development activity.

Within the department there is a keen interest in developing and sharing knowledge. We have active interests in Systemic, Acceptance and Commitment and EMDR therapeutic approaches and support these through interest groups. However, the team also values different approaches and aims to support people developing skills that enable them to work within their specialist areas.
