The Assistant Merchandiser is responsible for supporting the delivery of sales, profit and stock objectives by ensuring the right products are available in the right quantities, locations and at the appropriate price points. Working closely with Merchandising and Buying teams, the role contributes to the planning, trading and performance of product categories, helping to identify opportunities and risks while supporting the execution of the overall commercial strategy.
A key aspect of the role involves the management and maintenance of merchandising systems, including WSSI reporting, ensuring sales, stock, intake and markdown information is accurate and up to date. The Assistant Merchandiser analyses performance data and trends to provide insights and recommendations that support decision making, stock optimisation and future planning. The role also supports the management of continuity ranges through effective forecasting and replenishment planning.
In partnership with the Merchandiser, the role contributes to Open to Buy (OTB) management, stock control and trading activities, helping to maximise full price sales, improve stock turn and minimise markdown risk. Through regular monitoring of sales, stock, margin and promotional performance, the Assistant Merchandiser provides valuable analysis and reporting to support the achievement of departmental and business objectives.
Qualifications & Skills- Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
- Intermediate level experience in merchandising & selling.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel and B+M systems - in particular WSSI's, and Stock and Commitment processes.
- Experience operating within a Retail multichannel environment with commercial awareness of the industry.
- An analytical background keen to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement.
- Negotiating and contracting skills.
- Communication, influencing, and relationship skills.
- Demonstrated financial acumen in previous roles.
- Able to make logical decisions and prioritise multiple workstreams/objectives under pressure.
