Job Description

You see the world through a unique lens and that's exactly what we need. We embrace how you see things differently - it's essential for creating a sustainable future.

Arup is a global consultancy with advisory and technical expertise across more than 150 disciplines. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment. Globally, each year we recruit hundreds of graduates to help us see things differently and solve the most complex challenges facing our clients, climate and communities.

The opportunity

The heritage element of our Environmental Planning team is newly established but gathering momentum. As such, we are seeking an Assistant Heritage Consultant to join the team, based at One Albert Quay in Cork. This is a full time permanent role. Our projects are located throughout the country, and the role will require occasional travel to sites and other Arup offices.

This is an entry level role, suitable for recent graduates or people early in their careers.

The role will include conducting research, writing Archaeological Impact Assessments, Architectural Heritage Impact Assessments, undertaking site and archive visits, and contributing to Environmental Impact Assessment Report cultural heritage chapters. The role will also include using GIS systems to supplement our assessments. You will be expected to work with colleagues across a wide range of disciplines to achieve project objectives.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective - in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share, and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning - to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you? Essential
  • A Bachelor's degree in archaeology (joint honours or minor degree acceptable)
  • Research skills and a high level of written expression
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
  • A Master's degree in archaeology / architectural heritage related subjects
  • Some knowledge of the Irish legislative framework and policy and its practical application to projects affecting the historic environment
  • Knowledge / experience of undertaking desk based assessments, heritage impact assessments, or similar assessments
  • Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS preferred) and dataset manipulation
What we offer you

Beyond a great salary and stimulating, technically challenging work, Arup offers a range of additional benefits to its people.

As a membership organisation, everyone shares in our success through a global profit share scheme. Our members also have access to a range of broader wellbeing benefits. You'll have access to lots of learning and development opportunities. This includes a structured induction and ongoing training through Arup university.

Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to utilise your technical expertise to do meaningful work that strengthens the resilience of communities and places to improve lives through Arup's community engagement programme.

Our hybrid work model creates an environment that accommodates different needs and allows members to integrate their work and personal lives alongside the needs of our business, clients and communities.
