This Assistant Financial Controller job in a multinational software company in Galway is an excellent opportunity if you are an experienced EMEA Financial Accountant / Senior Accountant in a SSC or CoE environment, and seeking more exposure to and influence on business operations. By gaining a strong understanding of the businesses you support, and partnering with the Entity Financial Controllers as well as Marketing, IT and Facilities teams, you will provide insights on variances in business performance against budget and hold full autonomy for the financial, tax and statutory reporting activities for your entities.
Reporting to the EMEA Finance Director, with a dotted line to the Entity Financial Controllers, you will be responsible for the UK and German entities which are this company's largest entities outside of the US where you will complete monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close, financial statement preparation, tax returns and provide insights on cost and revenue drivers that informs forecasting.

With secure, and growing, revenue powered by multi-annual subscriptions from enterprise level customers, your previous process improvement experience will be sought to automate processes and utilise their Oracle ERP system to the full. With a mature hybrid working policy in place of 3 days onsite and 2 days working from home each week, supplemented by a full month each year of remote working, you'll be trusted to deliver accurate financial reporting and variance drivers' insights to the business in a working style that suits you.
This job goes beyond financial and statutory reporting, the business needs you to understand the "why" behind the numbers and have a narrative that you can relay to the business. Among your responsibilities include:
- Take ownership for monthly, quarterly and year-end close for the UK and German entities
- Go beyond the numbers to create a narrative around variance drivers which impact on forecasting
- Provide the financial information to prepare the financial statements for both entities, working with a Big 4 firm to bring them to completion
- Manage the audit process for the UK and German entities, liaise with auditors, provide supporting detail and rationale for accounting treatment
- Deliver accurate statutory accounting under local UK and German GAAP
- Prepare local VAT, corporation tax and other statutory tax returns with the assistance of an external tax advisory firm
- Build relationships with operational heads of departments to understand their aims, financial position, upcoming revenue and spend so you can establish yourself as a true entity controller to the wider business
- Review and improve close processes, utilise their Oracle ERP system to it's fullest to eliminate manual work, particularly at peak close times

To become the Assistant Financial Controller you will be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with 5+ years' PQE which includes multi-entity financial accounting and reporting in a large scale company.
